Southwestern Turkey Burgers and Southwestern Potato Mix

Today we shall make Southwestern Turkey Burgers and A Southwestern Potato Mix. A healthier alternative to your conventional beef patty.

This isn't the most exact recipe, but basically you will need:


1 Pkg Ground Turkey Breast, 1 Green Bell Pepper, 1 Red Bell Pepper, 1 White Onion, 1 Can Black Beans, 1 Can Whole Kernal Corn, 2 Avocados (pick your favorite), 1 Potato, Salt, Ground Cumino Spice, Texas Orignal Baracho bean spice (Or your favorite fajita spice), Lettuce, Ketchup, and whatever condiments you like on your burger,

Alright, lets get started. We are going to make the Potato Mix first because it takes longer. Start heating up some olive oil in a skillet. Then Chop up the potato, onion, and peppers. The peppers and onions will be going into the burgers themselves, so chop them as finely as you see fit.

Next, take a fourth of the onions and peppers and set them aside for the burgers. Pour the rest in a bowl or in my case a pot.

Mix it all together. Add your Cumino, Baracho spice, salt, and pepper (also any other spice you think will fit). Once the oil in the skillet is hot enough (which it should be by now), pour it into the skillet

Give it a good stirring, and let it sit so the potatoes and peppers become softer. Continue to add spice as you see fit. While doing this open your black beans and corn. Strain them in a pasta strainer. Sorry, I forgot to get a picture of this part. Just try to get as little juice as possible. Pour the beans and corn into a pot and get them cooking.

Once the potatoes and peppers are soft, poor it into the pot.

Add a little bit of garlic to the mix. Put it on low heat and stir it occasionally while cooking the burgers.


Onto the burgers! Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil first. Take the peppers and onions you set aside earlier and put them into a stainless steel bowl. Add in the ground turkey. Next add some seasoning salt or whatever spice you find suitable. I didn't add a whole lot of spice as the peppers and onions already give the burger good flavor. Onto the mixing and patty making. Ground turkey breast is STICKY (After posting this on, SA I was recommended to add 1 egg and bread crumbs to reduce stickyness) Wash your hands thoroughly, leaving them a little wet, and mix the stuff in the bowl together. Once mixed shape some patties (I got 3 out of it all) and lay them on the foil.

Get your grill started. Once your coals are ready, take the entire sheet and lay it on top of the grill. Do not try to grill the patties without foil, it will be very messy. Carefully tear off the excess foil.

Let the patties sit for about 5 minutes on the grill. The bottoms will begin to harden, this is when you can take them off the foil and set them on the grill.

Let those bad boys cook for about 10 minutes. Once you can feel the whole patty hardening, flip them and cook for 10 minutes on the other side. During this time, lets make some guacamole! Everyone has a different guac recipe, use your favorite. For mine I used:

2 Avocadoes, 1/2 tbsp of Soy Sauce, 4-5 Tbs of pace salsa (quality stuff), some diced tomatoes, 1 tbsp of salt and a pinch or two of cumino

Alright, your burgers are probably almost done! Take some wheat buns with you to the grill and toast them for the final minute or two the turkey is cooking. Take it all off the grill, and lets begin the serving process. The order of a Southwestern Turkey burger goes like this: bun, turkey, guac, lettuce, tomato, bun. I recommend adding a nice size dab of ketchup for a little sweetness. If you want to be fancy, add all of the above ingredients plus spicy mayonnaise and blue corn chips to the top. This will obviously take away from the healthiness of it all, but whatever floats your boat.

So, hows she look? Presentation isn't my forte, but you get the idea. One thing I love about the recipe is the versatility. For better taste I recommend fresher corn, your personal guacamole recipe and fresher spices for the grub mix. The grub mix is great because you can make it for all of 2-4 dollars.
