This is a little side dish I came up with as a great complement to a juicy steak or one of those 2" thick boneless pork chops and it's very simple.

What you need:

  • 1 jar of stone ground mustard (the kind with seeds in it)
  • 1 jar of natural honey
  • 10-20 fresh asparagus spears

Whisk together about a 1/2 cup of the mustard and the honey. Wash the asparagus and place in a mixing bowl. Pour about half of the honey mustard over it and mix it up, making sure the spears are evenly coated.

Grill about 5 minutes per side until the asparagus is lightly seared and starting to turn dark. The main thing here is to make sure it is tender.

Take the asparagus off the grill and pour the remainder of the mustard mixture over it. You end up with tender asparagus coated with caramelized honey and mustard drizzled all over it and a nice smoky grilled flavor to boot.

This really goes nicely with a couple of thick grilled pork chops. Baste the chops about 1/2 through cooking with any left over honey-mustard to add a caramelized sweet coating.

Again, any suggestions and constructive comments are appreciated. Enjoy!
