This is actually my grandmother's recipe. I don't think she'll mind if I post it on the wiki.

  • 4 apples
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 6 matzoh
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 t salt
  • 2 t cinnamon
  • a dash or two of cardamom (if you have it)
  • 1 C walnuts
  • 6 eggs
  • 2/3 C butter

Peel apples and soften raisins in water.

Preheat oven to 350. Crush matzoh to 1/2-1" pieces. Work-out the frustration of not being allowed to eat pizza for a whole week.

I only had whole cardamom pods, so it seemed a little silly to get out the mortar and/or pestle just for "a dash or two (if you have it)". But this is my grandmother's recipe, dammit, and if it calls for cardamom, I'm using cardamom.

Toast walnuts.

Put nuts in one pie pan with another pie pan on top. Press really hard with another, till finely crushed. Work-out the frustration of not being allowed to eat biscuits for a whole week.

Mix together sugar, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, and nuts. This stuff will smell amazingly good, but don't eat any. Really. You'll need it for later. Ok, maybe just a little spoonful, but that's it.

Melt the butter. Lightly beat the eggs, working out the frustration of not being allowed to eat pancakes for a whole week. (They're only eggs, but I don't really have pancakes that often anyway. Not so much anger this time.)

Drain raisins and mix apples, raisin, and matzoh. Mix in sugar mixture, then eggs and butter.

Bake 45 minutes in a well greased pan. It's done when a knife comes out clean.

Call your grandmother; she misses you.
